Poor Mac and Cheese

Difficulty: easy

Mac and cheese is the staple broke man’s dinner so it makes sense that it has found its way into this blog. You could take another option and download a couple printable coupons from the Kraft website and buy those box ones, but this is actually easier.

Ingredients:

1 big box macaroni

1 tsp salt

Water for boiling

1 cup milk

1 tsp flour

0.5 cup grated Parmesan

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar

1 tbsp butter

0.25 tsp dried parsley

1 cup shredded mild cheddar

0.25 cup bacon, cut into bits and fried (optional)

Directions:

Heat the water and salt in a large pot and boil the macaroni according to the directions in the box. While it is boiling, melt the butter in a sauce pan, add the milk and flour and bring to a boil. Mix it continuously until the flour dissolves. Lower the heat to a simmer and add the Parmesan, sharp cheddar, bacon bits, and parsley. Keep mixing until smooth. Drain the macaroni and put them in an oven safe baking dish. Mix the milk cheese sauce into the macaroni. Sprinkle the mild cheddar on top and cover evenly.

Preheat the oven to 175 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) and bake the macaroni for 25 minutes or until the cheese on top melts and turns a golden brown color. A economical dish like this pairs well with garbage quality beer, I suggest Old English beer which can be found only at gas stations.
